How & when to apply

Our application period is open annually from November 1 - March 31. To apply, simply send us your online application between these dates. Distribution of funds takes place between June - July.

Who we support

We welcome registered charities across British Columbia to apply for funding.

  • Hold current registered charity status in good standing with the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA)

  • Grants must be used for the project for which they were requested

  • Be clearly linked to one or more of our areas of focus; community health, social care or environmental impact

  • Employ ethical methods of publicity, promotion and solicitation of funds

  • Must demonstrate inclusiveness and respect for cultural diversity

  • Operating/administration costs of the organization are reasonable and minimal

  • Demonstrate strong support and need for the programs/services provided

  • Have a long-term impact and has a measurable benefit to that segment of the community served by the organization (affect significant numbers of people)

  • As applicable/appropriate, provide recognition of the support received from the Foundation (i.e. logo, program material, verbal and/or social channel recognition, etc.)

  • Minimum funding request is $2,500

  • The maximum amount a charity can be funded per year is up to $20,000

  • Only single year funding will be considered

  • Organizations that have not received funding in the previous funding period (i.e. if a organization receives funding in 2021, they are eligible to reapply in 2023)
  • Organizations outside of BC are not eligible for funding

What we fund

We provide funding for capital items only, focusing on the tangible improvement and sustainability of your organization.

The Foundation will use their discretion to determine where its funds will be allocated.

Eligible:
  • Equipment/appliances
  • Supplies/tools
  • Renovation costs (excluding labour costs)
  • Furnishings/fixtures
Not eligible:
  • General operating costs such as wages, salaries, labour costs and honorariums, including facilitation/training and project management fees
  • Rent or utilities
  • Advertising and/or licensing fees
  • Administrative/bookkeeping costs
  • Travel or transportation costs
  • Deficit or debt reduction held by the organization
  • Fundraising events or sponsorships (including sports teams or individuals)
  • Research, surveys or studies
  • Organizations that are exclusive or have political, religious, racial or gender bias
  • Independent film/video productions
  • Organizations or initiatives outside of BC
 

Where our funding comes from

The Beem Foundation is funded mainly through discretionary allocations from our credit union, approved by our Board of Directors
